Letter To Nicolay 11

Dear Nicolay,

Do you remember when we traveled around Ukraine doing the Vision Conferences to encourage church planting as part of a saturation church planting strategy? Those were exciting days full of enthusiasm, in spite of the resistance from many brothers. We fully expected that God would enable us to begin 40,000 new churches by starting reproducing churches. We talked about reproduction, movements and starting new churches, and the glory of God.

Now years later, we realize how far we have fallen short of those goals, and we ask, “Where did we go wrong – if we did?”

Once again, Neil Cole’s words comes to mind. “You must make reproducing disciples, if you want reproducing leaders who start reproducing churches leading to a church planting movement.” We now understand and how resistant Christendom churches are to reproduction, but that is no excuse for not making reproducing disciples.

Oops, that what we forgot and that continues to be missing from the work of the evangelical churches – INTENTIONAL DISCIPLEMAKING. We have preaching, teaching, education, crusades, and a hundred of other works – but where is intentional disciple making.

There are probably many ways to make disciples, but one of the best ways that I have seen is Life Transformation Groups. They are a simple and effective way to make disciples.

Three men or three women agree to read 25-30 chapters of scripture each week and then meet to confess their sins and pray for those they know who do not yet know Christ. The spiritual breathing of inhaling the scripture and exhaling confession produces reproducing disciples as the Holy Spirit is allowed to work in the lives of the participants. This is also the process that I see in the drug rehab homes of the NGP churches.

Nicolay, I continue to believe that God wants so much more for Ukraine, if we just participate with Him. Making disciples who reproduce is Step #1.

Please consider these things, Nicolay.

Blessings, dear brother!

Christ is all,

Rich Correll

Editors Note: On our resource page, you will find the electronic version of the book - Cultivating a Life for God by Neil Cole. This book gives a great biblical foundation for discipleship and explains the practical way to do it mentioned in Rich’s letter- Life Transformation Group Material. You will also find on the resource page a simple brochure describing the how to’s of Life Transformation Groups.

    About the Site

All across the world, people are gathering in small groups to serve and worship God, be family, and encourage and affect each others lives. These gatherings are called by many names including simple church, organic church, and house church. Whatever you call it, the people involved value incarnational ministry to the lost, living radically for Jesus and each other, and are willing to get rid of anything that gets in the way of being fully devoted followers of Christ.
