Letter To Nicolay # 13

Dear Nicolay,

Greetings dear brother!  On my recent trip to Ukraine, in nearly every conversation about church growth, church health or multiplication, I am asked, “Do you know what the secret is?”  I respond.  “No, please tell me.”  They respond with great conviction that it’s “LEADERSHIP”!  They go on to say that without leadership, nothing does or will happen  Why, just look at the ministry of brother Nicolay, he’s a great leader!  We just do not have enough leaders like him to accomplish the tasks before us.

I usually nod in agreement and suggest we need to also be more intentional about making reproducing disciples.  We both agree and continue on our merry way having discussed and solved the problem.

But, Nicolay, here’s a thought.  What if the living Christ were the head, the actual leader of every church – not in name only – but in actual practice?  Would Christ be sufficient as our leader?  Would Christ be strong enough?  Would Christ be wise enough?

The truth is that if Christ were actually allowed to be the living head of each and every church, the only question which could be asked of us, “Are you obedient to Christ, the Lord?”  Yes, Nicolay, Christ is indeed sufficient!  Do you not agree?  And, in the ministry of simple organic churches, we have this as a main teaching and experience:  Christ is the head of the church.  We learn together to listen and follow Christ.

Nicolay, let’s stop raising up and comparing men, but rather look only to Christ!!

Your brother in Christ,
Rich Correll

    About the Site

All across the world, people are gathering in small groups to serve and worship God, be family, and encourage and affect each others lives. These gatherings are called by many names including simple church, organic church, and house church. Whatever you call it, the people involved value incarnational ministry to the lost, living radically for Jesus and each other, and are willing to get rid of anything that gets in the way of being fully devoted followers of Christ.
